Darinel Dragon Hunter by Antje Hergt

Welcome, Antje, to my blog today. She is here to tell us about her newly released book Darinel Dragon Hunter.

Blurb:

Prince Darinel is traveling–for what feels like forever. Expelled from his father’s kingdom, he just wants to find a new home. When a shadow lures him to a wealthy kingdom, he stays to discover more about the darkness, but the citizens are tight-lipped.

Their king welcomes the foreign Prince hoping that he will solve his two problems: the dragon and his strong-willed daughter. Coming from a warrior kingdom, Darinel despises violence, but charmed by Princess Tuskja’s dare, he sets out to confront the beast. Instead of finding a fierce dragon, he finds a friend. The dragon’s malicious humor and his love of fairy tales entangle Darinel in a summer of adventures, while danger stirs in the East, the Dark Prince. Being refused by the Princess and humiliated by the dragon, this proud prince seeks revenge.

In compliance with the king’s decree, Darinel is torn between his friendship with the dragon and his love for Princess Tuskja, whom he can only marry if he kills his friend. Before he can make a decision, the kingdom is under attack. Now it is up to the dragon to either help his friend or respect his wish to not interfere.

Excerpt:

The prince sighed. “Yeah, you’re right. Do you mind if I take a break here?”

“Oh no. Be my guest,” the voice replied, cheerfully.

Darinel dismounted and reached to tie Tibor’s reins to the trunk of a tree, when a dark shadow swished over him. The horse bolted in panic and disappeared. Dumbfounded, he stared down the path they had just travelled.

“Oops!” The voice sounded a bit regretful.

“That was not supposed to happen.” Still shaking his head, he turned to a little sparkling stream at his feet and knelt beside it. He took off his helmet and splashed water onto his face and over his head.

“It is a bit inconvenient, isn’t it?” the voice said. “But don’t worry, the way down always seems faster,” it added cheerfully.

“Yeah, right!” the prince said with a smirk as he slid back to lean on a big boulder behind him. “Now you see I am no threat to you, won’t you come out and sit with me?” He ruffled his hand through his wet hair.

“I’d love to, but don’t you know, there’s a fierce dragon in these mountains?” the voice pointed out.

Author Bio:

Born and raised in Germany, I came to explore the Canadian Rockies in Canmore, Alberta in 2003. Taking part in the Writing-with-Style Program at the Banff Centre for the Arts in 2007 encouraged me to follow my passion: writing for children. Darinel Dragonhunter is my first novel, which was inspired by my deep love for classic children literature and fairy tales. My thrill for science fiction/fantasy movies and television shows had an outlet in various genre short stories. I am a member of the Alberta Writer’s Guild and graduated from the Justus-Liebig-University in Giessen with a degree in Modern Languages.

Currently, I live in Germany with my snoring cat, Sally, but I miss the magic of the Rocky Mountains. When I am not in Canmore, you can find me in Germany.
Thank you, Antje, for telling us about Darinel Dragon Hunt. I need to put this on my list of books to read.

My Review Of Finding My Fatih by Carly Fall

Title: Finding My Faith - Book 2

Author: Carly Fall

Genre: Scifi-Romance

Release Date: February 29, 2012

Blurb:

Growing up in a small Northern Arizona town, Faith Cloudfoot’s life was spent playing in the forests surrounding her house under the protective eyes of her father, and learning about the legends of her Native American heritage. Yearning for more out of her life, she moves to Phoenix, Arizona at the age of twenty-three where she is kidnapped and almost killed.

Rayner has a special ability, one that weighs on him like a curse. He can see spirits trapped in between life and their final resting place. Because he can’t do much to help them, he studiously ignores them. He concentrates, instead, on working with his fellow warriors to right the wrongs caused by the evil criminals from his home planet.

When Rayner sees Faith in her spirit form while investigating a lead in Phoenix, his attraction to her is immediate, yet he follows his own personal code and ignores her cry for attention. When he realizes that she may be a stepping stone to getting him home to his own universe, he engages Faith and begins to use her as a means to an end: going home.

As the attraction grows stronger, Rayner finds himself breaking all sorts of self-set rules, as well as the code of ethics set by him and his fellow warriors. When Faith nears death, Rayner realizes that he must do everything in his power to save her, because if he doesn’t, he may just lose himself.

Excerpt

Rayner knew what he was doing was wrong, but he simply couldn’t help himself.  He should have left the room a while back, but seeing Faith standing in the middle of the room in that little blue nightshirt and watching her get angry at him had jacked him up to levels he had never known before.  Holy Christ, he wanted her even more when she yelled at him, and when she had come at him with that little fist, oblivious to their size difference…it had sent him right to the edge.  He would have to explore the psychiatry of that later.  Right now, he was busy teetering on a very dangerous slope.  He just wanted Faith.  He didn’t care about consequences, what would happen later, or what would happen in three minutes.  He was only in the moment, and the moment consisted of Faith’s hand on his raging erection.

He wanted those lips, but he knew if he kissed her, he would be a goner.  A total goner.  Game over, hit the lights because his party would be over.  So he kissed her cheek, which was soft and warm and just a little damp from all those tears that had ripped at his heart.  He hadn’t meant to actually nip at her earlobe.

He needed to disengage and get away from her.

Instead he placed his hand at the nape of her neck and pulled her forward—the only thing separating them was their hands, her little fist wrapped in his big paw.

“Rayner—”

“Don’t say another word, Faith,” he whispered.  “Just don’t.”

He closed his eyes and brought a lock of her hair up to his nose, smelling the fresh mountain breeze scent he had come to associate with Faith.  His chest grew tight, his breathing became more labored as the silky strands whispered across his skin.  He wanted her with a ferocity that bordered on insanity.  What beat within him now was nothing but raw male need, all pretenses of manners and gentlemanly etiquette long gone.

When he felt her hand lay flat on his chest, and she turned her head and rested her cheek on his chest, he thought back to his dream and how good it felt to have Faith touch him, to be near her.  To have it happen in real life was a zillion and one times better than the dream.

“I think I’m in love with you, Rayner,” she whispered.

He knew that from the ceremony to get her spirit back in her body.  It still shook him to his core to hear her say it.  His skin developed goose bumps; his knees went weak at her words.

“You can’t love me, Faith,” he said into her hair.

“It’s too late,” she breathed into his chest.  “Too late.”

He knew what he had to do.  He needed this to end, to come to a halt, a full stop with brakes screeching. He thought his heart might break, crack, or just fucking stop with his next words.  “But it’s not too late to let me go,” he whispered.  He let go of her neck and hand and stepped away.  He didn’t meet her eyes as he opened the door and stepped out.

I give this book a five star review. I liked the romance of this story. Rayner falls in love at first sight with Faith who is a spirit at that time. She falls in love with him, but they don't let the other one know how they feel. Also, Faith has always been told about a legend. 'Really, what were the chances of her being the redhead born every twenty-five years that was supposed to produce a savior? And that savior was supposed to come from her and some guy with red eyes?' This story is more than a love story, it is also full of action, mystery, and suspense. Thanks, Carly, for a good read.

Excerpt

A bed of orange, red and yellow flowers envelop me in my forest bed. The sweet song of the bluebirds rouses me from my sleep. All around me I see trees and feel at peace. “Maia,” I hear whispered behind me. “Come and find me Maia.” I turn and begin my search for the melodic voice that calls to me. His voice is getting farther away and now I am running to find him. The greens and oranges fade to browns and whites as I run through fall and into winter. His voice is getting louder, “Maia.” As I round the next snow capped tree I come face to face with beautiful silver eyes.

“You know my name. You were calling me.” I say in a breathy whisper afraid to disturb the peace of the forest.

“I know not only your name, but you. It is almost time for you to come home. We have all missed you.”

“But I don’t know you. How can you miss me?”

“It will all make sense in time Maia.”

He leans in close and kisses my cheek. The intoxicating smells of ylang ylang and pine enter my nose and send my nerves into a tizzy. His kiss is soft, almost as if a butterfly had landed on my cheek. The feel of his breath on my face sends the butterflies from my cheek to my stomach.

“Can I at least know your name?”

“Heaton, young Maia. My name is Heaton. I must leave you now. We will meet again soon.”

Runaway Girl By Elaine White

Welcome to the Runaway Girl Blog tour. We have three weeks and eight fantastic blogs participating. Runaway Girl is a vampire tale unlike any other. Take a look:

A missing vampire princess. A soul fractured among five young human girls. One loyal vampire with a grudge. Can vampire soldier Damian set aside his personal feelings to follow orders? Can princess Amelia's soul be reunited in time for the meeting of the three clans? Will her brother, Matthew, fight for the right to rule? Who will prevail?

In a world populated with vampire books Elaine White gives us a completely original tale filled with complex family relationships. White takes the emphasis off the predatory human vampire relationship and instead focuses on their world. She takes us inside a complex tale of clans and politics, family vendettas and warring lands. This book is more than one story. It is many stories interwoven into one original world.

I give this book a five star review. Great cover. To me this was a new twist on a vampire story. A vampire gets her soul servered into the living souls of five girls. Damion tries to find the one girl who has the most of Amelia within them. Interesting read on how he goes about doing this. If you like vampire stories, this is a must read.

Elaine White was born and raised in the small town of Haddington, Scotland. She began writing from an early age when she thought that she would have written differently passages from the books she was reading.

At the age of 14, she tweaked existing stories to experiment with various writing styles. Eventually, this led to her taking a Creative Writing course and writing her own stories from scratch. Now, she finds inspiration everywhere, which has lead to numerous novels and series ranging from college romance and crime to the supernatural world of witches and vampires.

Elaine currently lives at home in Scotland with her parents and boisterous poodle. She is a full time student and full time writer.

My Review Of Sweet Contradiction By Peggy Martinez

Title: Sweet Contradiction

Author: Peggy Martinez

Genre: NA Romance

Dates: 6/29-7/13

Coming July 13, 2013

BLURB:

***FAIR WARNING: If you are easily offended by books that happen to mention things concerning God, Religion, Etc., in a favorable or unfavorable light, then this book might not be for you.***

When Beth Michaels high tailed it out of the hole-in-the-road town she grew up in, she only had two goals. One—get as far away as quickly as possible, and two—never set foot in her parent’s home again. But when she receives a heart breaking call from her childhood best friend, Jen, she has no choice but to turn her ’56 Ford pickup back in the direction of Salem, Missouri to attend a funeral.

There’s a new local in town when Beth arrives, and suddenly, it ain’t all that easy for her to remember her rules for dating. #1. Cookie-cutter-perfect guys ain’t her type. #2. Tie wearin’ and church frequentin’ is an automatic dismissal. #3. Most importantly, never date anyone from small minded, conservative, Bible-thumping towns like Salem. Unfortunately, Matthew Wright breaks all her rules and then some.

Matt might be from a small town and have small town values, but that doesn’t mean he fits into a little slot of Beth’s preconceived notions. After all, ever so often good guys are good. Now if he could just convince Beth to let go of her past and give him a chance, he’s pretty sure there’s a whole lotta sweet under that prickly exterior. His own … Sweet Contradiction.
I love this book. I give it a five star review. I love to read romance stories that can make me cry. This story brought tears to my eyes whenever Beth and Matt were together. Beth is such a great character. She has a sisterly friendship with Jen that started in childhood when Beth needed her the most. Beth meets Matt. These two characters have a connection. Their souls dance together. Thank you, Peggy, for a great read.
EXCERPT:
“Matthew Wright! You put me down this instant!” I shouted as he swung open the back door and marched me through the kitchen. Another pop on my behind and I was fuming.
“This woulda been a whole lot easier if you’d just admit how much you want my bod,” he announced cheerfully as we passed Jen, who was standing in slack-jawed shock with a hand towel thrown over her shoulder.
“Matt, stop acting like a caveman. Where are you taking me?” I screeched. We were now climbing the stairs to the second floor. My energy had begun to leak out from putting up a fight and all the gardening and manic scrubbing I’d done.
“Which one is her room?” Matt asked a now devilishly grinning Jen. I pushed my hair out of my eyes and watched as she pointed out my bedroom—the two timing hussy! Before launching me onto my bed, Matt slapped my behind a third time. I landed on my back, staring up at my ceiling, unable to even summon the strength to make a dignified bounce back.
“So, you going to get a shower and get dressed? Or am I going to have to help you with that too?” He asked, his grin telling me how incredibly appealing he found the idea. I crossed my arms over my chest and tried to look as pious as I could knowing I’d just been treated like a naughty child.
“I’ll get ready.” I grumbled. He smiled wickedly and his eyes heated into liquid pools of amber.
“I’m almost disappointed in that answer,” He murmured huskily. I could feel my cheeks flush from the desire burning from his gaze. “I’ll be back to pick you up in two hours.” I nodded my head and he turned to leave the room.
“This will never work. We’ll only end up hurting each other.” I whispered softly. Matt stopped with his back to me and his hand on the door handle.
“I’m willing to take that chance … you’re worth it.” He said without looking at me. I closed my eyes as he left the room. I sure hoped he was right.

This was a great scene. I could picture Matt doing this and Beth reacting the way she did. Funny.
